After very long today, I had a good sleep, and got up fresher than I normally have on ATR. We had planned to look for Sri Lanka frogmouth (Batrachostomus moniliger), a small bird found in the Western Ghats of India as well as Sri Lanka. And then there is slender loris, which is a small primate about as big as a chipmunk weighing about 300 grams and is found in the rainforests of southern India and Sri Lanka. We can also find it in South Goa, so I thought of trying our luck. The most noted feature of a slender loris is its big, close-set brown eyes.

Since we were to shoot in South Goa for this leg of our Goa trip, we decided to shift base from North Goa to Nature’s Nest in South Goa for the day. This was not planned at all. Just that we looked around and found something. Nature’s Nest is our fourth place of stay since I came here on December 9, 2023. We spent one night at a temporary place of stay in Candolim before moving to Joie de Vivre Goa, Boutique Villa Resort in Candolim. Thereafter, we moved to the Silver Woods Apartments on December 14, 2023 but we ended up staying over for the night at Nature’s Nest on December 14, when we came here looking for the blue-eared kingfisher that day. We went back and stayed at Silver Wood yesterday, and now we are back here at Nature’s Nest because we had to look for the Sri Lanka frogmouth and slender loris.

And I did find the Sri Lanka frogmouth — and two at that — but the only problem was that they were sitting behind the tree and I did not have a clear shot. So I clicked whatever I could. But all said and done, I did get to see Sri Lanka frogmouth finally. That’s good enough.
