The Lion-tailed Macaque (LTM) in this picture was clicked at Valparai taluk of District Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, within which taluk lies a part of Anamalai Tiger Reserve we visited during ATR. LTMs are markedly different from other macaques in appearance, general behaviour and social structure. Their name comes from their lion-like tail and mane. Unfortunately,
LTMs are getting increasingly comfortable with human presence and have begun grabbing food from people, which exposes them to our lifestyle diseases.
