I clicked this picture of a Golden Langur near Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, Assam. Golden Langurs (Trachypithecus geei) are Old World monkeys endemic to Western Assam and the foothills of Bhutan’s Black Mountains. They are looked upon as sacred by the Himalayan people. Since the langur was formally reported by naturalist Edward Pritchard in the 1950s, it’s also called Gee’s Golden Langur even though the earliest record of the langur is in a paper authored by Robert Boileau Pemberton and published in 1838 but that paper was lost and was only found in the 1970s, which is why the story of the langur’s discovery is recorded and reported differently.
